Bhubaneswar, Jan 29: More than one lakh people from across the world participated in the KIIT and KISS Mini Marathon held on Sunday. The event was special this year as it coincided with the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the institute and was organised in 25 cities across the country, in as many nations, and 35 towns in Odisha. Besides, it was held after a gap of two years because of the Covid pandemic.
The main event was held in Bhubaneswar where the Founder of KIIT and KISS Dr Achyuta Samanta flagged off the mini marathon at 6 AM in the presence of actors such as Rahul Bose, Sabyasachi Mishra and Archita Sahu along with Bhubaneswar (North) MLA Susanta Rout, DIG SIW Anirudh Singh, athlete Dutee Chand Amiya Mallick and Anuradha Biswal and Rugby Association President Priyadarshi Mishra. Senior functionaries of KIIT including Vice Chancellor Sasmita Samanta were also present. Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das joined the concluding function.
About 20,000 students and people from all walks of life participated with enthusiasm covering the 6.5 km up to the KIIT cricket stadium from Xavier Square. The objective of the mini marathon was to create awareness about ‘Education for All’.
A large number of people also participated with zest in 35 towns across Odisha. Outside as well, the event witness impressive participation in countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Cameroon, Kenya, and Zimbabwe among many other nations.
